Getting Pregnant
The would-be mom should take care of her health before getting pregnant as her health affects the growth and development of the child inside her womb when she is pregnant. If she is too fat she should try to reduce weight and if she is too thin she should attain proper weight. She should eat healthy, balanced diet. It is evident from some researches that one has difficulty in getting pregnant if she is not having proper weight according to her height and body type. She should do proper exercise to ensure health benefits associated with it, but it should not be too vigorous and so should be done under expert’s guidance to avoid any problem.
If the would-be-mom has any addictions such as alcohol, smoking; she should get rid of it before getting pregnant as it poses a number of hazards to the child during pregnancy. If the would-be-mom has been using any contraceptive methods, she should consult her gynecologist about the same before getting pregnant. If the would-be-mom is taking any medications, she should consult a doctor regarding whether to stop the medication or take it or any other alternative of the same whichever is applicable and safe. The would-be-mom should not use any over-the-counter medications; before using any medicine, she should always consult a doctor as she can know about her pregnancy only after sometime of getting pregnant. The would-be-mom should always ensure safety of her baby by not consuming anything which could be dangerous for the developing baby.
One of the important issues which should be considered if one is getting pregnant is to ensure that she and her partner have gone through genetic counseling to screen any dreaded genetic disease that could be present in the baby and how to avoid it. When pregnant, the would-be-mom should get her baby screened for the possible genetic diseases.
Another important issue which should be considered is cord blood banking. Cord blood banking is the preservation of umbilical cord blood at the time of delivery which is used for treatment of the baby against various deadly, genetic and non-genetic diseases if the need arise in future. It must be planned if one is getting pregnant as it is the most precious gift to the baby which can ease his/her life when in danger.
