Pregnancy Complicatio
It is lovely to think and feel that someone is in your body and you will deliver that baby. But complications are always there with pregnancy. These pregnancy complications are the problems which occur during the period of pregnancy. Pregnancy complications can be common and serious. Common problems are considered normal and are not much dangerous to the mother or baby. Serious problems may be life threatening to both mother and the baby if not treated in time.
Common pregnancy complications
Pain in back: this pregnancy complication is very prevalent during pregnancy. This generally affects the mother in last three months of the pregnancy. Massage, appropriate exercises, and muscle relaxant are used as treatment options.Contractions: this pregnancy complication is also referred as Braxton Hicks contraction which is without pain and occurs occasionally. It is irregular contraction. Dehydration is cited as the causative agent for it. Treatment is intake of fluid in sufficient amount.
Constipation: this pregnancy complication is caused due to less motility of bowel which happens due to increased level of a hormone called progesterone during pregnancy. It is treated with help of increased intake of fluid and adding more fibres to diet such as having more fruits and vegetables.
Dehydration: this pregnancy complication results from expanded intravascular space which occurs during pregnancy. Treatment is increased intake of fluids. This pregnancy complication may lead to other complications such as contractions.
GERD (Gastro oesophageal Reflux Disease): this pregnancy complication arises due to the relaxation of the lower oesophageal sphincter. The treatment options are antacids, H2 blocker, and proton pump inhibitors. The patient is also suggested to take small meals at number of times and not to lie down about one hour after eating.
Oedema: this pregnancy complication arises due to compression of the pelvic vein and IVC (inferior vena cava). Treatment option is leg raising and sleeping on side.
Haemorrhoids: this pregnancy complication results from the increase in venous stasis and compression of IVC.
Pain in lower abdomen: this pregnancy disorder happens due to the increase in size of the uterus due to expansion resulting from the growth of the baby.
Pica: this is the pregnancy complication due to which the would-be mom develops craving for non-edible stuffs such as clay.
Varicose veins: this pregnancy complication develops due to smooth muscle relation and increase in intravascular pressure.
Frequent urination: this pregnancy complication arises due to increase in intravascular volume and compression of bladder by uterus which is expanding due to growth of the baby.
Serious pregnancy complications
Placental abruption: this pregnancy complication has several causes. Risk factors are hypertension, trauma, and drug use. Immediate medical care is needed.
Ectopic pregnancy: cause is not exactly known. Risk factors are old age and smoking. Treatment is abortion of pregnancy.
But all the pregnancy complications remain behind the main goal of delivering a healthy baby. That bundle of joy is ahead all the complications. Holding a baby in your arms, you would never think about the pregnancy complications that you have gone through during pregnancy
