Pregnancy Symptoms

Pregnancy symptoms are the conditions which are often individually or collectively present in a pregnant lady. Not all the pregnant ladies experience all the pregnancy symptoms. Some of them can experience some of the pregnancy symptoms while others can experience none of them. Same lady can have some pregnancy symptoms during one pregnancy and can have none or another pregnancy symptom during another pregnancy. Pregnancy symptoms can be present anytime during the pregnancy. Pregnancy symptoms can show themselves as early as just after conception.

What we call pregnancy symptoms could be symptoms of other conditions as well. So these should not be confused as pregnancy symptoms unless test result of pregnancy is positive. Even if the test result of pregnancy is positive to take these symptoms as pregnancy symptoms, these should always be discussed with a gynecologist for validation.

Some of the common pregnancy symptoms are:

Absence of monthly period: when pregnancy results, there is change in functioning of the body of the mother. She does not ovulate for next nine months and thus she does not experience monthly discharge of blood for next nine months. Usually, absence of a period for the first month is time when pregnancy test is desired by most to confirm the pregnancy.

Nausea and vomiting: This pregnancy symptom is generally manifested in first three months of the pregnancy although can be present during the next six months but the intensity is less or it is less frequent than during first three months of pregnancy. This pregnancy symptom is also referred as morning sickness.

Frequency of urination increases: This pregnancy symptom presents itself generally during early months of pregnancy.

Fatigue: Fatigue is a feeling of being very tired without any obvious reason. This pregnancy symptom can be so intense that the would-be mom can get completely exhausted while performing daily chores. This pregnancy symptom presents itself during the early months of pregnancy.

Changes in breast: This symptom of pregnancy is mainly the presence of tenderness in the breasts; however, some sensation of tingling in the breasts may be felt. Appearances of breasts also undergo changes during the months of pregnancy. The areolas may get larger and darker during early months of pregnancy. During the advanced months of pregnancy, the size of breast increased as it prepares itself for lactation.

Discomforts in body: During pregnancy, changes in hormones and body physiology can result in a number of uncomfortable conditions experienced by the would-be mom. These pregnancy symptoms include mood swings, heartburn, headaches, constipation, backaches, diarrhea, acne, bloating, abdominal cramps and indigestion.

Aversions to food: Aversions to food is the pregnancy symptom which presents itself in early months of pregnancy. This may be to any food item even the ones which have been favorite food earlier to pregnancy.

Smell aversion: During pregnancy mothers are more sensitive towards smell. Some of these smell aversions are the reasons for aversion to food.

Cravings for certain foods: This pregnancy symptom is the most common one. Almost 85% of ladies develop craving for particular food during pregnancy. Someone may have more inclination towards spicy foods while others may have towards sweets.

Morning sickness: This is very common symptom of pregnancy which one can feel after 2 to 4 weeks of conception. This can be experienced mostly during first three months. Some pregnant women feel restless and uneasy in morning time but these symptoms of vomiting and nausea may persist whole day.
