Pregnancy in human is the period of approximately nine months during which one or more than one embryo is being nurtured inside the body of women so that an embryo should develop fully into a healthy baby.

- Process of conception: if the female egg came in contact with the male sperm, through the sexual intercourse then fertilisation occurs. Then the fertilized egg gets implanted in the uterine lining and once implantation process completes, human chorionic gonadotropin hormone is released. It shoots up the level of progesterone and so body experience so many changes and symptoms that make you feel that you are pregnant.
- Three trimesters of pregnancy: pregnancy is divided into three trimesters –- > first trimester: this is the most risky time as there is more chance of miscarriage. Lot of care is necessary during this period. Second trimester: you can watch the accurate development of embryo in this period. Third trimester: now it’s time for the foetus to prepare itself for the world which is not like its mom’s body.
- Due date: the important fact about pregnancy is that the duration of pregnancy is 266 days. It is 38 weeks. If pregnancy is counted from the first date of last period then pregnancy lasts for 40 weeks. But normally these are not exactly true in all cases. Actual positions would be confirmed on the basis of ultrasound. Also the important fact is that first pregnancy is different from the second or third one. Some have longer first pregnancy while some other may have shorter first pregnancy than the next pregnancy. It is interesting to know that only 10 percent of babies are delivered exactly on due date. Various factors are important here.
- Premature baby: this is the scaring fact about pregnancy as no one want to deliver premature baby. What is a premature baby? If the child is delivered before 37 weeks we may call her/him a premature baby. Now a day’s premature babies are common and treated very well as we have now advance medical science. The important fact about pregnancy at this time is that baby has not fully mature organs generally it is lungs which need most attention. But there is nothing to worry about. Stay cool and relaxed as there is advance medical science and also there is God who always takes care of us.
- Post mature baby: you know actually 90 percent of deliveries are after the due date. Its sound interesting. These deliveries are after 43 weeks and are known as post mature delivery.
